Surely before each of us at least once the question arose: how to cut the angle of the ceiling baseboard? Well, or floor, depending on the situation. Of course, there are ready-made connectors on sale, but not always it is possible to choose for each specific kind of molding.
And here it is necessary somehow to be twisted, to do a pruning on an eye, and then some times to correct. But it’s not so difficult to trim the molding correctly the first time. In this article, we will tell you how to mash ceiling baseboard, as well as floor. One – with the help of a special tool, and another – without it.
How to cut baseboard corners
Acquired baseboard must be cut according to the perimeter of the room. To make this process faster and easier, you can draw a diagram on the sheet of paper, marking all the outer and inner corners.
Cutting baseboard trim inside
Despite the fact that the rooms most often look like a regular rectangle, the angles in them are not equal to 90 degrees. Such an angle is the dream of any builder and repairman. If to you all the same has carried and at you a classically correct corner then for cutting of a plinth it is necessary to make the following:
Wooden or plastic canvas is placed in the stool;
We find on the side panel a furrow and a mark of 45 degrees;
Orienting on it, we begin to cut the baseboard with a hacksaw;
The obtained edge is peeled using sandpaper.
When cutting the baseboard, you should remember which side it is located at. When working with wood, the ideal angle will help to get a special putty.
If you are not lucky and your corners do not have 90 degrees, then you need to do the following steps:
We make a small marking on the floor. For this purpose, a pencil or a flipping marker is suitable. From one and the other side of the corner it is necessary to draw a future border of the plinth. In the corner you will get a kind of diamond. Its diagonal is the line of sawing.
Applying the baseboard to the received rumba, make a mark of its diagonal.
From the received mark to the corner of the baseboard we conduct a straight line. This is your line sawing. Focusing on it, the saw is cut with a hacksaw.
The obtained end is recommended to be treated with sandpaper.
Some experts recommend doing a sawing with a slight increase. This will allow you to manually fit the plinth in the corner as accurately and tightly as possible.
At the end, you need to insert a plug into the resulting joint to form a neat internal corner of the baseboard for the floor. If this tree, the joint should be treated with putty and prepared for further painting.
How to cut baseboard outside corners
If you have a classic outer corner of 90 degrees, then the process of its formation is the same as the internal one. When cutting, you need to remember which baseboard you are on which side. After receiving the joint, it is necessary to close the ends with a special plug. If there are minor flaws in the cutting process, they can be easily corrected with a mastic, and then closed with a stopper.
If you have non-standard corners, then cutting the baseboard reduces to the following steps:
Apply the canvas to one wall.
Using a pencil, we mark its internal and external boundaries.
The same is done with the other baseboard.
As in the case with the internal angle, we get a diamond, just located outside. Its diagonal will serve as the cutting edge.
With the help of a file and a chair, we prune.
The resulting ends are carefully cleaned and install the baseboard.
The final touch is the stubs in the corners.
Your outer corner of the baseboard on the floor is ready, and you can finally fix the product around the perimeter of the room by means of screws or special glue.
Cutting baseboard corners out of standard
Modern design solutions in the decoration of premises often consist in the use of original forms. In such a case it is quite difficult to install the floor baseboard in non-standard corners. After all, they are often both internal and external. Sometimes the corners are completely rounded. This is why the docking methods described above are not suitable.
If you are dealing with a round corner, then you need to cut the baseboard into 4-5 pieces. Using the plugs for the connection, gently lay the entire angle in small parts. Do not forget to fix them with glue or putty. Thus, you will have a neat rounded corner.
If you have an inside-to-outside corner in the room, then the following steps should be taken:
On the one hand, we put a baseboard and draw on the floor its border.
Now apply the second half and make two marks: one – the intersection with the drawn border, the second – with the wall.
We connect the obtained points and do the sawing.
Close the ends carefully with plugs.
If you use wooden baseboards for finishing non-standard corners, then instead of the plugs you will have to use the putty. After it has solidified, the resulting surface must be carefully sanded using sandpaper. And the very principle of how to cut corners for a wooden floor baseboard remains the same.
